A Statement From the Chairman

ICI Australia's managing director Warren Haynes, 58, died today after a very short illness.

In a message to the company's employees, chairman Dr Ben Lochtenberg said: "It is with deepest personal sadness that I must advise that our managing director, Warren Haynes, died today after a very short illness."

"Words are inadequate to express our grief at losing such a marvellous leader, colleague and most importantly, friend. The heartfelt sympathy of everyone at ICI Australia goes out to his wife, Barbara, his daughters, Cathy and Jennifer, and his mother, Mrs Thelma Haynes, at this time."

The Board will meet shortly to consider the position of chief executive. In the meantime, chairman Ben Lochtenberg will act as chief executive.
