Appointment of Director

The Board of ICI Australia Limited today announced the appointment of Mr Don Mercer as a Non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 1 October 1997.

Mr Mercer is the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ANZ Banking Group Limited, having held that position from 1992 to 1997. Prior to joining the ANZ Banking Group in 1984, Mr Mercer had many years' experience with Shell International Petroleum Co. Ltd where he held positions in the United Kingdom, Holland, Canada, Indonesia and Australia.

Mr Mercer's strong local and international experience in the banking, finance and resource industries will bring additional resources to the Board as the Company reshapes its future following the recent selldown by ICI PLC.
