Environment Protection Authority (EPA) requests Orica undertake pre start-up activities at Kooragang Island
29 November 2011
The NSW EPA has today asked Orica to undertake a range of safety tests on the Kooragang Island site prior to its consideration of lifting the Prevention Notices currently in place on the site.
The safety tests involve turning on the steam system to test its integrity. The steam will then be used to check a range of systems and to prove that the vent stack is clean of any contamination from the 8 August incident.
Local residents are advised that there may be some noise and visible venting of steam as part of these works. Residents can call Orica's Complaints & Enquiries Hotline on 1800 789 044 for further information.
