Orica welcomes opportunity to speak with NSW Government

20 August, 2011

Orica has today welcomed the opportunity to meet with senior representatives of the NSW government to discuss the recent incidents at its Kooragang Island site.

Graeme Liebelt, Managing Director and CEO said, “I agree with Premier O’Farrell’s statement that the recent incidents at Kooragang Island are unacceptable.  They do not reflect the way we normally do business and I greatly regret them.

“I welcome the opportunity to meet with senior officials of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Office of Environment and Heritage to discuss the operations at the Kooragang Island site. I know that our personnel are highly trained and our operations are strictly monitored, so I am very distressed to see these  incidents occur,” he said.

The Company has initiated investigations into the two incidents, and the performance of the site overall, and is assisting the authorities in their investigations.
